Pope Benedict XVI will visit England and Scotland on a four-day Papal visit from 16-19 September 2010. The Holy Father will fly to Scotland where he will be received at the Palace of Holyrood house by Her Majesty The Queen. He will also celebrate a public Mass in Glasgow. In England, amongst other things, His Holiness will make a speech to British civil society at Westminster Hall, meet with the leaders of other Christian traditions, take part in a service of Evening Prayer with the Archbishop of Canterbury, lead a prayer vigil and beatify the nineteenth century theologian and educationalist Cardinal John Henry Newman.

SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

As previously announced Bishop Malcolm has agreed to come to the parish to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation during the Autumn Term on Monday 11th October.  Candidates should be aged 11 and at secondary school by the end of this year.  Any young person who is eligible to be confirmed can now get a form and register. Please ask for a form and complete and return it as soon as possible, certainly for the last Sundayof June. We will have an enrolment service at the beginning of July.

There are many and varied ministries within the parish.  But it is only by the good will of volunteers that these tasks are done.  The more people we have helping the better, otherwise left to a few people only, what was a service willingly given can become an onerous chore.  We urgently need more people to be involved in all ministries.  If you can help by doing a ministry, then please come forward.  Thank you to those who volunteer for ministry already.

 SUMMER FAYRE

This year’s Summer Fayre was a great success.  After expenses it raised £1,160.20.  This will go towards our School Quota.  It was great to meet many of you and to catch up on the news.  Thank you to all our stall-holders who worked not only during the day itself but in setting up the day before and clearing up afterwards.  Thank you for your willingness to give up your time and energy.  It is greatly appreciated. There is a list of stall-holders and what was raised on the notice board.  Thank you also to all those who contributed items for the stalls and raffles.  Thank you to all those who supported the Summer Fayre in whatever way.  Thank you and well done to you all!
