Our Mission

We, the Catholic community of St Edward the Confessor, are called through baptism to be the family of God. United in our belief, we aim, as a community and as individuals, to grow in friendship with Christ and to share that friendship and love with each other, with the wider community of Aylestone and beyond.

We aim, by the example and witness of our lives, to bring others to recognize Christ as Lord and Saviour, and to bring about his kingdom. In unison with the other Christians in Aylestone, we aim to support, care for, uplift, strengthen and encourage people who are vulnerable or marginalized, those who are housebound and our young people. Our mission is to give a moral lead because of our belief in Christ and to pass on sound values to the community around us.

Covenant with the poor.

In accordance with our Mission Statement for the Parish of St Edward to promote the Good News of Jesus Christ "both in Aylestone and beyond", we seek to give the poor and the needy a central place * for the Third Millennium and afterwards.

*We will - observe the CAFOD Lent and Harvest Family Fast Days to show our concern for and solidarity with the poor of the world.

- assist financially and by our prayers the missionary work of the Church.

- respond to appeals made by CAFOD in times of disaster or crisis.

We accept CAFOD's Challenge 2000 to raise funds in various ways within the parish for the areas of concern highlighted by CAFOD

We donate 10% of the interest received in the Parish Set Off Account to charity

We pledge, along with the Diocese of Nottingham, to act as advocates for the poor, to be a constant voice speaking on behalf of the voiceless, to support international efforts to relieve the debt of struggling nations, and to promote fairer trade and conditions of work for those exploited.

Millenium Resolution.

Through Christ our Lord, we ask the Father, by the power of grace, to instil in all peoples, respect for the earth, peace for its people, love in our lives, delight in the good, forgiveness for past wrongs and the grace to make a new start for ourselves and for our world.
